ABOUT

Serenade is a series of improvised vocal performances, drawing from classical training I received as a singer. I began this practice informally during my first years living in San Francisco, as I would sing in public spaces with good reverberation (subways, open air malls, rotundas, commercial entryways etc.) as a way of keeping my voice well-practiced, and indeed out of an interest/compulsion to share my song. I began recording these performances in earnest a few months into the COVID-19 lock-down in 2020, singing to the residents of North Beach and the surrounding neighborhoods in quarantine. Here, the intent was to initiate a shared experience of beauty during a strange and uncertain time.

I continue Serenade, as a meditative and expressive practice as I respond to and sometimes react against the conditions of the surrounding environment. The practice is ever-evolving, and is fundamentally an exploration into the medium of song as a tool for calling both inward and outward.
